Admissions Policy Statement:
Consideration for admission to Chartwell School is based on a formal diagnosis of a specific learning disability such as dyslexia, the student's ability to benefit from the school's program, and the availability of appropriate class groupings. Incoming students are evaluated through analysis of psycho-educational evaluations, previous school records, parent questionnaire, student and parent interviews, and informal testing/observation.
Chartwell School has three established criteria for admissions acceptance:
1. Formal diagnosis of a specific learning disability
2. Emotional availability
3. Evidence of average (or higher) cognitive ability
Our admissions committee is comprised of the Executive Director, the Head of School, the Academic Director, and the Dean of Students. Final acceptance is based on the student's records, testing, visitation and interview.
Admission procedures are:
• Parents complete and submit the Fall Admissions Packet and fee to begin the admissions process. Please call the school for materials.
• Parents submit all previously administered psycho-educational evaluations (including a cognitive or intelligence test), medical history, and school records.
• Parents are scheduled for an interview and consultation with the Head of School.
• The student is scheduled for an interview, school visit and an informal language skills assessment.
• The admissions committee reviews the student's records, diagnostic evaluations, and observation of the student's visitation to make an admissions determination. The Head of School informs parents of the decision and the student is enrolled for the 20-day summer school if appropriate.
• Based on teacher recommendation and student performance in the summer school program, admission, and enrollment for the academic school year will be determined.
Chartwell School's admissions policy is non-discriminatory with regard to race, creed, gender, color, sexual orientation, national origin or physical disability.
